Newsletter – April 2014

This year, Yatton Keynell Under 5s spent the whole week leading up to Mother’s Day, celebrating Mums and all that they mean to the pre-schoolers. The children all brought in pictures of their Mums and used these as inspiration to draw pictures for Mother’s Day cards. It also gave the opportunity for their children to talk about how important their Mum’s were to them, and these thoughts were written in cards as special mementos.

There were lots of budding young artists in the preschool when local artist Kathy Hutton came in to help the children print their own self- portraits. This was a great activity to bring out the children’s artistic side, and but also gave the children the opportunity to really look at their own features, from hair colour and style to noses and lips, and choose the most relevant printing block and colour for their self portraits.

With a late Easter this year, there was some lovely weather leading up to the end of term. This meant there were lots of opportunities for the children to spend time in the fresh air, learning about nature and the joys of being outside. There were lots of nature and listening walks, and one of the children’s favourite activities this month was bark rubbing.

Of course, Easter is always an exciting theme for the children, with lots of fun activities, including making Easter cards, Easter crafts, decorating biscuits and of course an Easter egg hunt around the field, with the obligatory chocolate eggs for all!
